Frequently Asked Questions

Lemon eucalyptus oil is a steam-distilled essential oil made from the leaves and twigs of Corymbia citriodora, a eucalyptus species native to Australia. It has a bright, lemony scent with a soft, green eucalyptus undertone, and the lemony character comes from its naturally high citronellal content. Most people use it for diffuser blends, DIY soap and candle scenting, homemade linen and air sprays, and hobbyist perfumery where they want a citrusy top note with a herbal twist. HBNO® sells it steam-distilled in retail-friendly sizes so you can use it across a few different DIY projects without buying a tiny boutique bottle.
Store the bottle in a cool, dark cabinet between 60 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit, upright, with the cap closed tight. Sealed and unopened, HBNO® Lemon Eucalyptus Essential Oil keeps its quality for about 24 months from the bottling date. Once opened, plan to finish it within 12 to 18 months for the freshest scent. The oil naturally fades and shifts over time, so if the lemony note weakens or the scent turns sharp, set it aside and order fresh. A practical tip: amber glass bottles slow scent degradation, so keep the oil in the original HBNO® bottle rather than transferring to clear glass.
Lemon eucalyptus is a strong essential oil, so dilution is required before any skin contact. For a face blend, dilute to 0.5 to 1%, which is roughly 1 drop per 2 teaspoons of carrier oil. For a body blend, dilute to 1 to 2%, or about 1 to 2 drops per teaspoon of carrier oil. Good carrier choices include Jojoba Carrier Oil, Sweet Almond Carrier Oil, and Fractionated Coconut Carrier Oil. Always patch test the diluted blend on your inner forearm for 24 hours before using it more broadly, and keep it away from the eyes, ears, and mucous membranes.
Mix 1 drop of HBNO® Lemon Eucalyptus Essential Oil with 1 teaspoon of a carrier oil like jojoba or sweet almond. Apply 2 drops of that diluted blend to the inside of your forearm, then leave it alone for 24 hours. Watch for any redness, itching, or warmth that feels different from the rest of your skin. If anything shows up, stop use and wipe the area with a clean carrier oil, since oil dissolves oil better than water does. Consult your healthcare provider before using essential oils on children under 10, or while pregnant or nursing, since lemon eucalyptus is high in citronellal and is on the stronger end of the essential oil spectrum.
The scent is bright and lemony up front, with a soft, green, eucalyptus undertone that gives it a fresh, slightly minty edge. It's noticeably different from sweet lemon oil, which is squeezed from citrus peel, and noticeably different from standard Eucalyptus Globulus Essential Oil, which leads with a sharper camphor note. The first impression usually lasts the strongest 15 to 30 minutes in a diffuser, then the herbal-green base settles in and rounds out the room. A typical bottle is a pale yellow color with a thin, fast-moving consistency in the dropper.
HBNO® sources its Lemon Eucalyptus Essential Oil from steam-distilled leaves and twigs of Corymbia citriodora (formerly Eucalyptus citriodora), with primary supply from established essential oil producing regions in Asia. Each batch is GC/MS tested (gas chromatography mass spectrometry) to confirm the citronellal profile, screen for synthetic adulteration, and document any minor constituents. The certificate of analysis is available on request. HBNO® does not use solvent extraction, fillers, or carrier dilution in the bottle, so what you buy is the steam-distilled oil at full strength.

Testimonials

My new morning diffuser scent

I run 5 drops of this with 2 drops of peppermint in my office diffuser every morning for about 45 minutes. The room smells bright and clean for hours, and the bottle has lasted me almost three months at this rate.

Perfect for my linen spray recipe

I make a 4 oz pillow spray with 20 drops of this and a little witch hazel. The lemony-fresh scent lingers on the pillow cases through the next morning. Way better than the supermarket linen sprays I used to buy.

Strong scent throw in my candles

I tested this at 8% in a 1 lb soy wax batch and the scent throw is excellent both cold and lit. I sell my candles at a local market and the lemon eucalyptus blend has been my best seller for two months running

Switched from doTERRA for the price

I'd been paying almost double through a doTERRA rep for the same oil. HBNO's bottle is twice the size and smells just as clean and lemony. The GC report on request was the deciding factor for me.

Reliable bottle in my essential oil shelf

I've been reordering this for about 18 months and the scent has been consistent every batch. I use it in diffuser blends, soap making, and the occasional surface spray. The amber glass bottle holds up well in my craft cabinet.
