Steam-distilled from the needles of Abies sibirica, this Siberian fir needle essential oil smells like a walk through a snowy evergreen forest, crisp, fresh, and softly balsamic. It's a favorite for diffusing and for adding a clean, woodsy note to DIY soaps, candles, and household room sprays , and that fresh aromatic profile is characterized by its natural bornyl acetate content. HBNO® steam-distills it, GC/MS tests every batch, and offers maker-friendly sizes for anyone blending in bigger batches.

Frequently Asked Questions

HBNO® Fir Needle Essential Oil is best known for its fresh, evergreen-forest scent, which makes it a favorite for home diffusing, DIY scented multi-surface sprays, and soap and candle making. It's a go-to during the colder months and the holidays when people want a crisp, woodsy aroma in the house. It also blends well into seasonal room and linen sprays for a just-back-from-the-forest feel.
Keep it tightly capped in a cool, dark spot, away from heat and sunlight. Conifer oils like fir needle naturally oxidize faster than many other oils once air gets to them, so buy a size you'll use up and keep the lid sealed. Stored well, HBNO® Fir Needle Essential Oil is best used within about 1 to 2 years. If the scent turns sharp, sour, or paint-like instead of fresh and green, it's oxidized and a freshly oxidized oil is also more likely to irritate skin, so replace it.
No, always dilute it first. Fir needle is a potent conifer oil, so for general skin and body blends keep it to about 1 percent, which is roughly 1 drop per tablespoon of carrier oil, and stay near 0.5 percent for sensitive skin. Use a carrier like Jojoba Carrier Oil or Fractionated Coconut Carrier Oil, and patch test any new blend before wider use.
Used well diluted and patch tested, most people tolerate it, but because it's a conifer oil it can be sensitizing for some skin, especially if the oil has oxidized. Run a 24-hour patch test first: dab a little of the diluted blend on the inner forearm, cover it, and wait a full day. If you notice any redness, itching, or stinging, stop use and rinse the area with a plain carrier oil, not water. If you're pregnant or nursing, check with your healthcare provider before adding any new essential oil to your routine.
It smells like a fresh-cut evergreen, crisp and green up top with a soft, sweet, balsamic warmth underneath, the kind of scent people associate with a forest after rain or a holiday tree. In a diffuser the sharp green note hits first, then settles into the rounder, woodsy base over the first 20 to 30 minutes. It layers especially well with citrus and cedarwood, which warm up the cool, resinous edge.
HBNO® Fir Needle Essential Oil is steam-distilled from the needles of Abies sibirica, the Siberian fir, which is the classic source for this oil. Every batch is GC/MS tested so the composition, which is naturally rich in bornyl acetate (the component behind that sweet, fresh forest scent), is verified rather than assumed. Because HBNO® sources and distills at scale, you get documented quality in maker-friendly sizes at a fair price.

Testimonials

Smells like a real Christmas tree

Four drops in the diffuser and the whole living room smells like a fresh-cut fir. I run it every evening in December and guests always ask what it is.

My go-to DIY countertop scent

I add about 15 drops to my homemade surface spray and the kitchen smells fresh and woodsy after I wipe down. A little goes a long way, the bottle is lasting me months.

Perfect for my melt-and-pour soap

I make small soap batches and this holds its evergreen scent through the pour really well. About half an ounce per pound is the sweet spot for me.

Bigger size, better value than the tiny bottles

Was buying 0.5 oz bottles that emptied in one project. This size lasts me through a whole season of candles and the Siberian fir scent is crisper than the last brand I tried.

Part of my winter candle routine

I blend it with a little orange and cedarwood for my poured candles every fall. Second bottle now and the scent throw has been consistent each batch.
