Lavender is one of the gentlest essential oils, but we still recommend diluting it to 1–3% in a carrier oil (jojoba, coconut, or sweet almond) for regular use. That translates to 1–3 drops per teaspoon of carrier. Undiluted application should be reserved for occasional spot use only — such as a single drop on a minor bug bite or small blemish. Prolonged neat use can lead to sensitization over time.
Lavender is among the safer essential oils around pets, but caution is still essential. For dogs, diffuse in a well-ventilated room and never apply undiluted to their skin or fur. For cats, exercise extra caution — cats lack a key liver enzyme to metabolize essential oils. Never apply lavender topically to cats. Always allow pets an exit from any room where oils are being diffused, and consult your veterinarian before use.
Store in its original dark glass bottle, tightly sealed, in a cool place away from direct sunlight and heat. Ideal temperature is 60–75°F (15–24°C). When stored properly, Lavender Essential Oil maintains its potency for 3–4 years — one of the longest shelf lives among essential oils. If the aroma shifts toward a sharper, more camphoraceous smell, the oil may be oxidizing.
For a standard ultrasonic diffuser (100–200 ml water capacity), use 3–5 drops. For larger rooms or a stronger scent throw, you can increase to 6–8 drops. Start low and adjust to your preference. Over-diffusing won't cause harm, but a lighter concentration is actually more effective for relaxation and sleep — your nose adapts quickly to strong concentrations.
