Frequently Asked Questions

Warm, spicy, and slightly woody, with a distinct clove-like edge that comes from its high eugenol content. It's noticeably different from cinnamon bark oil, which is sweeter and more dessert-leaning. Most people find the leaf version reads as earthier and rounder, the kind of scent that anchors a fall diffuser blend without dominating the room. The aroma settles in over the first 20 to 30 minutes of diffusing, with the sharper top notes mellowing into a steadier warm base.
Store it in its dark glass bottle, tightly capped, somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight. A pantry shelf or a cabinet away from the stove works fine. Sealed and properly stored, shelf life is about 3 to 4 years from the distillation date. Once opened, it stays good for around 2 to 3 years. If the scent goes flat, develops a sour edge, or the color darkens noticeably, it's past its useful life. Buying the size that matches your real usage rate is the easiest way to avoid waste, which is why HBNO® offers everything from a 4 oz home-use bottle up to a 4 kg jug for serious DIY soapers.
No. Cinnamon leaf is one of the strongest skin sensitizers in the essential oil category because of its eugenol content, and undiluted application can cause significant skin irritation, redness, or sensitization reactions. Always dilute. For most adult skin uses, stay at or below 0.5 percent dilution, which works out to about 3 drops of cinnamon leaf in 1 oz of a carrier like jojoba or sweet almond. For body-wide application or sensitive skin, drop that to 0.25 percent (about 1 to 2 drops per 1 oz of carrier). Never apply near the face, eyes, ears, or mucous membranes, even when diluted.
Mix 1 drop of HBNO® Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil into 1 teaspoon of jojoba or sweet almond carrier oil. Apply a small amount to the inside of your forearm, about the size of a dime. Cover with a bandage and leave it on for 24 hours without washing the area. If you notice any redness, itching, burning, or swelling, stop use immediately, wipe the area with more carrier oil (not water, which spreads the oil), and rinse afterward with a mild soap. Pregnant or nursing users should consult their healthcare provider before adding any new essential oils to a routine. Cinnamon leaf in particular is one to be careful with because of its high eugenol content.
They come from the same tree (Cinnamomum verum in HBNO®'s case), but different parts of it. Cinnamon leaf is steam distilled from the leaves and is naturally rich in eugenol, which gives it a warm, spicy, clove-like character. Cinnamon bark is steam distilled from the inner bark and is high in cinnamaldehyde, which reads sweeter, more like the cinnamon roll scent most people picture. Bark is also significantly more expensive, more intense, and even more sensitizing on skin than leaf. For diffusing, soap making, and most DIY consumer use cases, leaf is the more affordable and more workable option
HBNO® sources its cinnamon leaf essential oil from Sri Lanka, where Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) is native and the leaf material is harvested from established plantations. The oil is steam distilled at the production region rather than bulk-shipped and re-processed elsewhere, which preserves the eugenol-forward profile a real Ceylon cinnamon leaf oil should have. Quality is verified through GC/MS testing to confirm botanical identity and constituent percentages, batch by batch.

Testimonials

My go-to fall diffuser blend

I run 2 drops with sweet orange and clove every evening from October through January. Six weeks in and I've barely made a dent in the 4 oz bottle. The scent is exactly what I wanted, warm and spicy without smelling like a candle store.

Switched from a 15 ml competitor and never going back

I was paying triple per ounce for tiny bottles from a name-brand retailer. Bought the 16 oz HBNO and now I'm not rationing drops for my soap batches anymore. Same Ceylon origin, same steam distilled, just an honest size.

Perfect for cold-process soap making

I've made three batches of fall soap with this and the scent holds up beautifully through the 4-week cure. I do 0.4 oz per pound of base with sweet orange and a touch of clove. Buyers at the farmers market kept asking what was in it.

Strong scent, a little goes far

First time with cinnamon leaf and I learned fast that 4 drops in the diffuser was way too much. Dropped it to 2 and now it's perfect. The warm spice notes layer well with frankincense, which I didn't expect.

Reordered for the third time

I use this in DIY room sprays through the holidays, in the diffuser daily through fall, and in a few small test batches of soap. Same consistent scent every order, no off batches yet. The 16 oz size lasts me about 14 months at our usage rate.
